Baltasar Garzón, the examining magistrade of Spain's Criminal Court, speaks with audience members in the hallway after giving a lecture at the Instituto Cervantes in Chicago, Ill. on February 22, 2010. Garzón has most recently deliberated over opening criminal proceedings against half a dozen officials of the Bush Administration including Douglas Feith, Alberto Gonzales, and John Yoo for offering justifications of torture, and has a long history of prosecuting alleged crimes against humanity including those of Augusto Pinochet and Spain's former Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez for his connection to the state paramilitary organization GAL; Garzón is an extremely controversial and polarizing figure in his native Spain.
