(R-l) Gular Ahmadova, a member of the Milli Majlis, the Azerbaijani Parliament, with her aide Ahmad Shahidov sits at her desk in her office in the Government House in Baku, Azerbaijan on November 18, 2011. In a politically charged case, Avaz Zeynalli, the editor of an opposition newspaper Khural, was arrested a few weeks prior for an editorial offending President Ilham Aliyev and for allegedly threatening to publish information as of yet unpublished about the alleged corruption of Ahmadova, who allegedly went to the police and asserted Zeynalli attempted to extort her, the pretext of which landed Zeynalli in jail; Ahmadova was later stripped of her parliamentary seat and ruling party credentials when a video emerged in September 2012 of her demanding a one million dollar bribe from a university rector who wanted a seat in parliament.
